Reinventing RetroQuest
Hey Guys! It's your girl, DaBatzy here.
I've decided to take this time with my blog and host a new series that travels the tales of myself as I traverse through the Arcade and reinvent/bring to life my Gaming Organization, RetroQuest. As most of you who know me, back in 2019 I joined an org named Vintage Gaming, which was founded by an amazing person named Cody, AKA Bionic.
Cody taught me a lot of things, most important being that this is the family I get to choose and that's what is important. He wanted to create a family hub for gamers of all walks of life, whether console to pc, moba players to fps, his door was open. Always open. I was saddened when he decided to step back from VTG, not only that, I was overwhelmed at being handed something he cared for deeply.
I think because of that, I failed at being able to bring it fully to life. In that time frame of 2020-2021 we saw a lot of staff changes, a lot of good friends that I had met through Vintage, especially with the esports side had taken steps back to focus on other goals and commitmits. We also struggled at finding a balance for esports and community. I was very esports minded when it came to how things were to be run in my mind and forgot that the core function of Vintage originally was for everyone, not just the competitive scene.
With that in mind as well as realizing I had lost sight of what the purpose of VTG was all about and my grandmother being diagnosed with cancer, I had decided it was time to shut the doors until I could finally take the time needed to really hit the ground running with something fresh while using the values that VTG instilled in me as a fellow Gamer as building blocks. That's where RetroQuest was born.
INTO THE ARCADE
With RetroQuest, I am taking what I learned with Vintage that the quality of my Community and putting the Players/Members first creates the central hub that we had aspired for originally while also combining it with my knowledge I have gained over the years while working with other organizations. I am taking the time to build the actual resources I will need first before I open those doors again, while also developing my tools so that I can help future org owners and esports players who are looking to start the journey with this industry.
My main focus is to have RetroQuest be a hub for those looking to make friends while traversing the online gaming community as well as anyone looking to help network and build themselves as streamers, esports players, or even those interested in the field of esports and not just playing a game, but things like shoutcasting or team management. I want to provide an arsenal of knowledge that anyone can use to help develop their identity and career.
All that being said, the first thing I am tackling, is creating the pool of knowledge, aka my RetroQuest Google Drive that will contain everything and anything about RetroQuest, from logos and branding tools, to presentations, and even my esports management tool. So far, after a really unfortunate loss of all/most of our original concepts and me having to locate each original file one by one after being corrupted, I have been able to recover most of the RetroQuest material I had originally made. Now, it's just making the substance.I'm happy to share one thing with the creation side of things completed this week, and that is these slides I have made for my RetroQuest Workshops/Presentations.
My idea for these Workshops are to host a series of regular Fireside chats monthly where those members who are interested can learn more about RetroQuest and my ultimate goals and ideas for the future of RetroQuest. At this time, I am about 60% complete for my first Workshop concent which is "RetroQuest Bootcamp". This workshop solely focuses on examining the ins and outs of RetroQuest and my approach to cultivating the seeds for RetroQuest to start to grow.
